Quiet Lightning presents the 16th Better Ancestors, a quarterly series showcasing writers of color, at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco on Friday, 12/13/24. Hosted by Sarah O’Neal and featuring, in order of appearance:

Celebrate 15 years of Quiet Lightning and 4 years of Better Ancestors at our next event, to be held Friday 12/13 at the Museum of the African Diaspora. Featuring readings of original work by Michaela Chairez, Lillian Giles, Cristina S. Méndez, LadiRevolutionary, Nairobi Williese Barnes & host Sarah O’Neal and launching our new book, sPARKLE & bLINK 118,  featuring cover art by Trina Michelle Robinson and included with admission for the first 100 people.

The book features writing by 14 of the authors who performed in this year’s Better Ancestors series, a quarterly showcase of writers of color created in January 2021: Leticia Guzman, Carlos Quinteros III, James Cagney, London Pinkney, Trinh Lê & Zêdan Xelef, Tadeh Kennedy, Sandy Vazquez, Karla Myn Khine, Alex Feliciano Mejía, Kato Bisase, Sarah O’Neal, Michaela Chairez, Lillian Giles & Cristina S. Méndez. Bios and links for all of the authors can be found on the Better Ancestors archive page, and books can be ordered separately here.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been hosting shows for 15 years, but there’s more than a little proof 😀 Our first was on 12/14/09, so we’ll probably dig into the archives for a surprise or two to mark the occasion.

Join us for what is sure to be a warm, memorable evening. We had a beautiful night at MoAD last year and expect another capacity audience. You can get tickets now – all proceeds to be split by Quiet Lightning and MoAD, both 501c3 nonprofit organizations based in San Francisco.
