In 1981, Roberta C. Holloway gave a bequest to the English department of UC Berkeley “to be devoted to bringing a poet for a semester to Berkeley to teach, and to enjoy the remarkable creative and intellectual culture of the English Department’s literary community.” The bequest has grown into a series that supports not only one semester-long lecturer each year but also three Holloway postdoctoral fellowships and the The Holloway Series in Poetry. This Spring’s schedule commenced with a reading by Lorna Dee Cervantes and Javier O. Huerta on Jan 26, 2012.
The above video includes a beautiful summary of the background to Holloway’s bequest, as given by Lyn Hejinian.
