What’s been most important to your writing: education, or the real world? Why?
Certainly the real world. Although my formal education was interesting, it didn’t provide the context necessary to push beyond my own juvenilia.

What are you unable to live without?
I want to talk about volcanoes. I can live without them, but I grew up around a live volcano and I feel that without this idea of life expanding and recreating, without experiencing the cycle of destruction and creation, I would be a different person.
